Root Canal Symptoms

Root Canal Symptom Guide

The main symptom someone experiences when needing a root canal is pain. The pain can vary from light to extreme pain, and can increase from temperature changes and pressure. Whenever you are experiencing tooth pain it’s extremely important to contact your dentist and an endodontist to get the tooth examined. The longer you wait to take care of tooth problems, the bigger the issue will become. At Toothsavers in Boca Raton, we advise our patients to act quickly when discovering any abnormalities with their teeth. We are equipped to respond quickly and appropriately.

Here are some general symptoms you may experience when needing a root canal:

  • Sharp pain when biting down: This could be caused by caries (decay) or a loose filling. The tooth could also be cracked. Endodontic Evaluation Indicated
  • Short lasting sensitivity to temperature (hot or cold): This could be caused by loose filling or gum recession. General Dentist Evaluation Indicated
  • Lingering pain to temperature (hot or cold): This usually indicates that the pulp is damaged due to caries (decay) or trauma. Endodontic Evaluation Indicated
  • Severe pain and/or swelling: The tooth is probably abscessed. Endodontic Evaluation Indicated
  • Sensitivity to temperature after dental treatment: May be normal 4 – 6 weeks after treatment. If symptoms persist or increase – Endodontic Evaluation Indicated
  • Sensitivity to touch or pressure: Surrounding tissue could be inflamed and infected. Endodontic Evaluation Indicated

What our patients say

These days, when you go to a doctor’s office, you are lucky if they ask you for anything but your credit card number. At this office, the feeling I got was that all my problems were over! And after I met Dr. Mitchell, and he performed the treatment, they were.
Doctor Mitchell was methodical yet quick. And very adept. There were many changes in drills and other tools, and each transition required interaction between assistant and Doctor. And each transition went quickly and smoothly. You could really tell you were in the hands of a team of professionals.
I went to Mitchell Endodontics for my first root canal, and boy was I nervous… But that didn’t last long! Dr. Glen Mitchell is outstanding at what he does. He has the best bedside manner I’ve seen in a long time, he always makes sure his patients are comfortable – and that’s very reassuring!
Amazing experience. Root canals have changed so much over the years! The new technology at Dr. Mitchell’s office made it easy and, fast and pain free. Thank you!
