Symptoms Guide
 
  • Sharp pain when biting down:
    This could be caused by caries (decay) or a loose filling. The tooth could also be cracked.
    Endodontic Evaluation Indicated
     
  • Short lasting sensitivity to temperature (hot or cold):
    This could be caused by loose filling or gum recession.
    General Dentist Evaluation Indicated
     
  • Lingering pain to temperature (hot or cold):
    This usually indicates that the pulp is damaged due to caries (decay) or trauma.
    Endodontic Evaluation Indicated
     
  • Severe pain and/or swelling:
    The tooth is probably abscessed.
    Endodontic Evaluation Indicated
     
  • Sensitivity to temperature after dental treatment:
    May be normal 4 - 6 weeks after treatment.
    If symptoms persist or increase - Endodontic Evaluation Indicated
     
  • Sensitivity to touch or pressure:
    Surrounding tissue could be inflamed and infected.
    Endodontic Evaluation Indicated
